Vinton "Vin-Vinnie" Swihart, 92, of Fostoria, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Fostoria Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Fostoria, to Amos L. and Edith (Smith) Swihart. He married Jessie (Waltermire) Ridge July 13, 1963, in Fostoria, and she died Jan. 13, 2012.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Liz) Swihart and John (Joyce) Swihart, both of Toledo; two stepsons, Greg (Sandy) Ridge of Fostoria and Scott (Vicky) Ridge of Stow; five grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
During World War II, he served four years in the U.S. Army, with two and a half years overseas. He was discharged with the rank of captain in field artillery.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, Fostoria, with the Rev. Beth Zuehlke presiding. A lunch will be served at Harrison Hall immediately after the funeral.
Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church.
Private burial services are to take place at Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia, where the United Veterans of Fostoria will provide military honors.
