FOSTORIA -Columbian's girls qualified two relay teams for regionals, nearly qualified another, and then saw Annie Demith advance.
All in all, not a bad day for the Tornadoes at the Division II district meet in Fostoria.
The Tornadoes finished seventh at the District 1 meet with 34 1/2 points. Liberty Benton won District 1 with 133 points. Fostoria's girls finished 13th in the district. Upper Sandusky's girls competed in District 2, and placed 13th with 10 points.
The Tornadoes' squad of Michaela Sharlow, Chandler Carley, Demith and McKenna Theis advanced to next week's regional by going 1:50.56 in the 4x200.
The Tornadoes also moved on in the 4x1, with Sharlow, Tara Baker, Demith and Theis finishing fourth in 53.54.
Demith made it out in the 400, running in 1:00.68, a personal-best. She finished fourth.
TC coach Amy Cooper said all the qualifiers set personal records for the season.
The Tornadoes' 4x4 team just missed a trip to regionals, running fifth. The top four finishers in each even advance.
"They ran really well and they performed really well," Cooper said. "It will be exciting to see what we can do for next week."
The only other area qualifier came on the boys side, where CJ Matheny of Fostoria ran fourth in the 800 in 1:58.87.
Fostoria placed 11th in boys events, with 18 points. Upper Sandusky was 16th with 8 1/3 points. The Columbian boys participated at the Division I meet at Frost-Kalnow Stadium. Story on page 1B.
