Mohawks are moving on
OLD FORT - St. Wendelin scored two unearned runs on three errors in the bottom of the seventh Saturday to clip Old Fort 2-1 in a Division IV sectional semifinal game.
Old Fort looked to be on the way to Thursday's final against Hopewell-Loudon after Krista Ward doubled in Mackenzie Gillett in the top of the sixth to break a scoreless tie.
That inning was the first time a Stockader had reached second since the opening frame, while Old Fort's defense had left St. Wendelin runners stranded at third in the third inning, at second in the second and fourth innings, and had a runner cut down trying to score to end the fifth.
It stayed that way until the seventh.
A pop up, single and fielder's choice left St. Wendelin down to its final out with Sammie Digby on first.
Mikayla Gilliland then reached on an error by pitcher Alyssa Pence and Digby advanced to third.
Allie Rutter and Meghan Reiter then reached on back-to-back errors by Ward at third, with a run scoring each time.
Reiter got the win for the Mohawks, allowing just three hits.
