FREMONT - Rupp's Comics in Fremont is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating the comic book art form Saturday. Free Comic Book Day kicks off at 9 a.m. and runs until 7 p.m. at Rupp's Comics, 335 N. Ohio Ave.
This is the 12th year for the event. More than 3.3 million comic books are to be given away by participating stores.
Chris Rupp, owner of Rupp's Comics, pointed out that publishers are producing comics suited to people of all ages. Rupp called the giveaway a "great way to get kids into reading, to inspire teens, and to rekindle the imaginations of adults."
"It's a great, risk-free way to introduce yourself to comics if you've never read a comic before, and these are special-edition books for regular comic readers," Rupp said.
Regular updates, information about comic books and a list of participating publishers and their free comics are all online at www.freecomicbookday.com.
