Calvert fell behind visiting McComb 12-1 through four and a half innings before the bats woke up. The Senecas fought back, but the hole was too deep, and McComb left town with a 13-7 victory.
"I'm extremely proud of how much heart our inexperienced underclassmen showed tonight," Calvert coach Dustin Ritchie said. "We were in a hole but kept fighting and as coaches we couldn't ask for any more."
Matt Iannantuono led the Seneca surge with a double and four RBIs. Jesse Gase added two hits, including a double, and a run scored. Austin Prenzlin, Marcus King and Austin Perry also drove in runs for Calvert. Prenzlin and Jacob Zimmerman scored twice.
H-L's Sendelbach no-hits Arcadia
ARCADIA - In 2012, now Tiffin University Dragon Logan Sendelbach was the Midland Athletic League's top pitcher as a senior at Hopewell-Loudon. If Friday's any indication, Garret Sendelbach is more than capable of filling his brother's shoes.
All Arcadia could manage off the sophomore was three unearned runs as Sendelbach no-hit the Redskins, striking out 11 in the process. He upped his season mark to 2-0 on the mound.
Sendelbach helped his own cause with a double and an RBI. Tyler Imes smacked two doubles and drove in a pair. Jordan Stewart had three hits, including a double. He drove in a run and scored three. Ryan Depinet also crossed the plate three times.
Braden Park also laced a double and picked up a pair of RBIs as the Chieftains improve to 2-1.
UPPER SANDUSKY - After being one of the final eight teams standing in Division IV last season, Seneca East looks poised for another run at regionals. The Tigers are off to a 4-0 start following Friday's 11-1 victory over Upper Sandusky.
Ethan Caudill picked up the win, pitching a six-inning complete game, striking out nine and allowing just three hits. He also scored a pair of runs offensively. Jordan Bowerman, Gus Baldosser, Mason McWilliams and Adam Bauman each had two-hit afternoons for the Tigers. McWilliams drove in four runs and Bauman two.
Andre Myers drove in Trey Clark for Upper Sandusky's lone run. The Rams fall to 2-3.
