Pianist Maya Tuylieva is to perform a guest recital at the Heidelberg School of Music at 7 p.m. April 5. Her program is to include compositions by Scarlatti, Haydn, Halmammedov and Schumann.
An up-and-coming pianist from Turkmenistan, Tuylieva made debut on Turkmen National Television at the age of 8. In 1999, she won the Turkmen National Young Artist Competition.
After graduating from the Special Music School, she entered the Turkmen National Conservator, where she worked and performed with the Conservatory's orchestra and the Turkmen Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2001, Tuylieva received a full scholarship to the University of Kansas and earned a bachelor's degree in music. She earned her master's degree from Arizona State University and is pursuing her doctoral degree.
Meanwhile, she has appeared across Europe and the U.S., performing in Carnegie Hall in May 2008.
The recital in Brenneman Music Hall is free and open to the public.
