CLEARWATER, Fla. - First Tiffin manufactured a run, then the Dragons went into mass production.
Ryan Williams singled in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth in the first game, and Tiffin erupted for 11 runs over a two-inning stretch in the second Thursday to sweep away Upper Iowa in the Jack Russell Memorial.
Williams' single in the first game drove in pinch-runner Anthony Dodds to give TU a 3-2 victory.
Nick Huenburg's two-run triple keyed a five-run fourth inning in the second game, and Colin Sallee matched that in the fifth to spur on a six-run surge as TU rolled to a 14-4 win.
Cody Dunn (2-0) got the win in two innings of relief in the opener.
Tiffin led 2-0 after the fourth inning, but gave up two earned runs in the top of the sixth.
Sallee doubled, singled and scored, Ryan Locke and Tyler Glass both had a single and RBI, and Williams went 3 for 4.
The Dragons (6-7) snapped a 1-all tie in the second game with their flurry in the fourth and fifth innings to get Glass (1-0) the win.
Huenburg went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and a double to go with his triple. Sallee added a run and RBI to what he did in the fifth.
Locke scored twice and drove in two runs with a double and single, and Alex Hartley doubled, scored and drove in a run.
Nick Calandra went 2 for 3 with three runs, Cole McCurray scored three times and singled and Jordan Stumm had two runs, two singles and an RBI.
Heidelberg softball falls twice in Florida
CLERMONT, Fla. - Denison overcame four errors to beat Heidelberg 3-1 in the first game, and University of Texas at Dallas got a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Student Princes in the second game 5-4.
Heidelberg started well, setting down Denison 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning and using Mikaela Mitch's sac fly to drive in New Riegel graduate Jami Wagner in the bottom of the frame.
But Rachel Laughlin homered in the fourth for Denison (4-3), and Gretchn Staubach led off the fifth with a round-tripper. Rebecca Dyer followed with a double, then scored on Julie Rooney's single.
Nicola Gabrielle took the loss for Heidelberg, with Dyer (3-1) fanning 10 to get the win.
UT Dallas snapped a scoreless tie in the second game with three runs in the second and added another in the fifth, but the Student Princes got a grand slam from Andi Lowe to tie the game in the sixth.
That lasted until the bottom of the seventh, when Stephanie Harris singled in Jordan Bratcher to give the Comets the win.
Ali Sayre took the loss for Heidelberg (6-4). Micah Starkey got the win in relief for UT Dallas.
Lowe added a single for Heidelberg, Lisa Simmons went 2 for 3 and Mitsch singled twice.
BG gets turned over, turned out of MAC?Tournament
CLEVELAND - Central Michigan took control with a 32-3 run in the first half, opened the second on an 8-0 burst and never let Bowling Green get in rhythm again Thursday in an 81-48 Mid-American Conference Tournament win at Quicken Loans Arena.
The win pushed the No. 4-seed Chippewas (19-11) into today's semifinals against top-seeded Toledo.
Central Michigan had the Falcons (22-10) to thank for nearly half of its offense, scoring 39 points off 34 turnovers.
The Falcons had a brief respite from the domination, closing the first half on a 14-3 run behind eight points from Columbian graduate Jill Stein.
But Central Michigan used its 8-0 burst to start the second half to extend its lead to 48-24 and powered off.
Crystal Bradford's 23 points for the Chippewas led everyone. Brandie Baker added 14 points and eight assists and Jessica Schroll scored 10 points.
The Falcons got 14 points and eight rebounds from Alexis Rogers and 10 points off the bench from Stein.
TU falls on road
DAVENPORT, Fla. - Tiffin University fell behind early against Saint Michael's in its fourth game of the season and couldn't fight back in a 19-9 women's lacrosse loss.
It marked the first win of the season for Saint Michael's (1-1).
Alexandria Quest led the way for Tiffin (1-3) with five goals and two assists. Alexis MacMillan, Emily Roussel, Kalie Weinheimer and Katelyn Hill all added goals.
As goalie, Jessica Bombard had 12 saves.
Both TU tennis teams victorious
The Tiffin University men's tennis team cruised to an easy 8-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan while the women eked out a 5-4 victory over Chowan.
For the men, Robbie Ball (6-3, 6-1), Kyle Johnson (6-2, 6-2), Maximillien Waeters (6-0, 6-2), Victor Fernandes (6-2), Craig Martin (6-1, 6-4) and Alex Weaver (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) all picked up singles wins. In doubles, Nicholas Almeida and Johnson won 8-4 while Fernandes/Waeters and Martin/Weaver won 8-3, 8-1.
The women's team picked up victories from Cassie Dye, Abagail Schuster, Renee Mattson, Columbian graduate Nicole Ardner, Malaika Messi and Valentina Mazzola.
TU softball splits doubleheader
KISSIMEE, Fla. - Tiffin University split a pair of softball games, falling 6-3 to Southern Indiana before rallying to earn a 4-3 win over Moorhead in the closer.
In the first game, TU led 3-0 after the first inning but couldn't hold on as the Eagles scored five in the second. Kelsey Yaratch took the loss.
In game two, Cassandra Brown hit a walk-off single for the Dragons while Sarah Brown picked up the win. Payton Denman had three hits to lead Tiffin (4-12).
