ATTICA - Seneca East Board of Education met Monday night, marked by a long executive session to discuss personnel contract negotiations, contracts and other related issues.
Several resolutions were approved, including:
Feb. 28 financial report.
Accept the amounts and rates as determined by the Budget Commission and certifying to county auditor to collect levies on duplicate.
Approve the treasurer to advertise for a 78-passenger conventional bus and a nine-passenger van.
Providing for the issuance and sale of bonds in maximum principal amount of $6.92 million for purpose of refunding at lower interest cost certain of district's outstanding classroom facilities and school improvement bonds, series 2005, issued to pay local share of school construction.
Providing for issuance and sale of bonds in maximum principal amount of $2.41 million for purpose of refunding at lower interest cost certain of district's outstanding classroom facilities and school improvement bonds, series 2005, which were issued for improving school district buildings and facilities and acquiring, improving and equipping real estate for school purposes.
District bus mechanic Kevin Keaton spoke about his experience with the physical and mechanical aspects of the bus fleet in consideration of the upcoming bus bidding process. He also discussed a new safety light system for buses which he hoped would cut down on drivers passing buses while stopped for student loading and unloading, especially on two bus routes on SR 4. The approximate cost of each set of lights is $400.
The board approved:
June 26-July 7 2013 as "no contact" period for school-sponsored activities.

Senior class trip's itinerary and chaperones.
The hire of five non-Seneca East band members for the musical.
A bid from Fred Schoen of $81,376 to rent 50.86 acres for five years to be paid in 10 installments.
Updated guidelines for athletic facility use.
Recognize Ben Hahler, first team MAL boys basketball, and Ashton Daniel, first team MAL girls basketball.
In his report, Superintendent Michael Wank congratulated students who recently performed in the school musical, saying the students "worked like crazy to shine."
Wank said the legislative process continues on the state budget, recently learning lobbyists from charter schools are to request more money, per student, than the average public school student.
Elementary principal Brad Powers said Troy Huth of the State Fire Marshall's office and local fire officials are to provide students with fire safety programs March 20-21.
He also thanked Pat Marinis for organizing the school's Pennies for Patients fundraiser. Students grades kindergarten-eighth collected and donated more than $237 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Sixth-graders donated the most money, $79.94.

High school principal Don Vogt reported:
Fifty students and 20 adults are scheduled to attend senior class trip.
OGT testing has begun at the Attica fairgrounds.
Plans are being developed for students who are borderline or failing in their studies, including teacher intervention.
Availability of study halls for students.
Board president Jaimie Beamer reported three students attending Sentinel were inducted into the Sentinel honor society, including Ryan Miller, Jake Serviss and Ethan Ruffing, all in the electrical trades program. She also reported Sentinel graduation will be May 21 at the Ritz Theater, Tiffin.
The board is to meet at 7 p.m. April 15 in the Board of Education office.
