Lawrence E. ‘Grandpa’ Foster

Lawrence E. "Grandpa" Foster, 85, of Tiffin, died at 10:07 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his residence.

Lawrence was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Smithtown, Ky., to Hubert and Ada (Hickman) Foster. He first married Irene (Gibson) and she preceded him in death. He later married Carolyn (Lowe) Aug. 30, 2008, in Tiffin, and she survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include his five children, James "Jim" (Debra) Foster of McCutchenville, Kenneth (Ann) Foster of Tiffin, Judy (Bill) Nye of Melmore, Donald (Margaret) Foster of Sycamore and Wayne (Shari) Foster of McCutchenville; three stepchildren, Ronald (Starlight) Mitchem of McArthur, Sherry (Ronald) Toland of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Raymond Allen Mitchem of Tiffin; a brother, Virgil Foster of Sydney; two sisters, Faye Reeder and Nellie Rittenhouse, both of Florida; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lawrence retired from Tiffin Developmental Center after 20 years. He was a member of Eighth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church, Carey Conservation Club and Seneca Muzzleloaders. Lawrence enjoyed shooting his muzzleloaders over the course of his life.

Lawrence also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Luzader; a brother, Ledford; and a sister, Imogene.

A funeral for Lawrence will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, 135 N. Washington St., Tiffin, (419) 447-1221.

Visitation for family and friends will be noon-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery, Tiffin, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eighth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church or Community Hospice Care.
