FREMONT - The next nightclub-style concert in Terra State Community College's Jazz and American Music Series is "Remembering Dave Brubeck." The music begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Recital Hall on Terra's Napoleon Road campus in Fremont.
This concert features the musical works of jazz legend Dave Brubeck presented by the Michael Shirtz Quartet, trombonist Doug Neel and saxophonist Mike Mlakar. The night will include such tunes as "Take Five," "Blue Rondo a la Turk" and more.
The quartet also features Keith Barber (guitar), Kris Bert (bass) and Chris Cavera (drums).
Pianist Michael Shirtz is to offer musical tribute to jazz great Dave Brubeck.
Brubeck died at age 91 in December, leaving behind a legendary career that spanned more than seven decades. His experimentations in meter, with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, introduced jazz to a new generation of listeners and musicians that transformed jazz as well as music of the 20th century.
