A Tiffin couple is warning residents of a phone scam involving Medicare.
Mary and William Roe Sr. said they received several phone calls Tuesday from someone who claimed they would send them a new Medicare card if a Social Security number and the name of a bank was provided.
William Roe said different people called each of the three times they received the phone calls.
Mary Roe contacted the Social Security office, which told her it did not send out new cards, and also contacted the police, William Roe said.
Tiffin Police Chief Fred Stevens said police have not received any other recent complaints regarding a Medicare phone scam. He said if residents do receive a suspicious phone call, they should hang up the phone.
"Don't give anyone your information over the phone," he said.
Seneca County Sheriff Bill Eckelberry also suggested hanging up the phone if someone asks for personal information. He said the sheriff's office has not received any recent complaints about a Medicare phone scam.
