Joseph L. Kintz, 75, of Lorain, died after a long illness, Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, Lorain, where he had resided since June 2012.
He was born May 3, 1937, in Hillside, Pa. He graduated from Derry Township High School, Derry, Pa., and attended Lorain Community College. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1960.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sandra (nee Shade); a sister, Rose (Richard) Strayer of Latrobe, Pa.; a brother, James (Jan) Kintz of Colona, Ill.; and two children, Sheree (Scot) Lightcap of Home, Pa., and David (Karen) Kintz of Kittanning, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Kelly (Ron) of Amherst; four grandchildren Ryan and Taryn of Home, Pa., and Jarrett and Leanne of Kittanning, Pa.; two stepgrandchildren, Geni (Paul) Busick of Elyria and Kendra (John) Meister of Olmstead Township.; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia (nee Zolocsik), formerly of Indiana, Pa., in 1966; a sister, Fran (Pete) Libengood, formerly of Amherst; father, Clarence and Mother (nee Reaney) formerly of Latrobe, Pa.; and stepdaughter, Tracy Bond of West Palm Beach, Fla.
He worked as a mechanical engineer at Gilford Industries, Oberlin, was part owner and head of engineering and sales at Groves Industries, Elyria, and retired from Tiffin Metal Products, Tiffin.
Joe was a gifted musician who played many instruments, but was well known in the area for his expertise on the pedal steel guitar, his favorite instrument, and for the many bands he played in around the area.
Joe donated his body to Case Western Reserve Medical School. His memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Lake Avenue United Church of Christ, 310 Lowell St., Elyria.
