Tiffin University opens up season with loss
CHILLICOTHE - Tiffin University dropped both games in a doubleheader against Slippery Rock. In the opener, the Dragons fell 2-0 while struggling in a 2-1 loss in the second game.
Eric Klepper gave up three hits and two runs in the opener.
Brock Mitchell had TU's only hit of the game.
In game two, Ryan Williams drove in Garrett Vernau with a single to tie it up 1-1.
Slippery Rock rallied in the 10th to score the winning run.
Tiffin sends three into day two at NCAA Super Regional
ASHLAND - Tiffin took part in the NCAA Super Regional No. 2 yesterday and sits in eighth after day one with 26 1/2 points.
Three Dragons remain and if any win their first match today, they will qualify to nationals.
At 138 pounds, Mike Screptock fought back after a 6-3 loss against Ross Benzel to down Nick Goebel from Findlay, 10-1. He also took a 6-1 decision over Hunter Neighbors of Central Missouri to make it to Sunday's opening match.
Jake Cramer at 174 pounds found himself 2-0 but a tough 7-6 loss to Eric Burgey from Notre Dame College gives him one last shot to make nationals today.
Kevin Christman, TU's 285-pounder, followed suit, losing the third match to Orlando Scales from Notre Dame College, 3-1. He must win his opening match today to qualify for nationals.
Cannaday sails to GLIAC victory for Tiffin
ALLENDALE, Mich. - Eugene Cannaday was the lone victor on day one for Tiffin University, setting a school record in the high jump with a leap of 7-0 1/4. The mark puts him at fourth in the country and also establishes an NCAA provisional mark.
On the women's side Kayla Ellks sailed 18-6 to finish runner-up in the high jump.
