Tiffin University's School of Business hosted the second annual Summit to Success Friday.
The summit, "Preparing Today's Business Students for Tomorrow," took place in TU's Osceola Theatre. The event, coordinated by The Business Club, helped students come in contact with several area business executives to get a firsthand look at what it takes to be successful in the corporate world.
An executive panel was led by Maria Hemminger, partner and owner of MJ Recruiters; Glenda Lehman Ervin, vice president of marketing of Lehman's; Andrew Felter, president and CEO of Webster Industries; and Jeff Taylor, assistant professor at Purchase College.
Breakout sessions were conducted throughout the day presenting students with topics such as real experiences in global business; how to be successful in the accounting and business world; human resources today; event planning; time management; and how to prepare for an interview.
The keynote speaker was Jeff Oravitz, president and CEO of MetoKote Corp., based in Lima. He spoke to students about the history of the company and how one gets to be a CEO of a global company and what his role means.
"I fell in love with the business' side business," Oravitz said. "Becoming a CEO is a long and winding road."
Oravitz shared lessons he has learned.
"First, marry the right person and trust in God because you can't do it by yourself," he said. "Make sure you also seek out assignments that will broaden your skill base and get out of your comfort zone. Take ownership of your education and earn global experience quickly."
Oravitz said a CEO has three main constituencies - customers, employees and shareholders."
"I have never worked so hard, worried so much and had the most fun. I wish all of you the best of luck and the best success in your lives," he said.
