Derry Risner, 82, of SH 53 North, Upper Sandusky, died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, in the emergency room of Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
He was born June 7, 1930, in Carey, to Ernie and Grace (Hamlin) Risner. He married Francie (Mullholand) Jan. 26, 1951, and she survives.
Also surviving are the following children, Tom (Wanda) Risner of Benton, Cathy (Brad) Hedrick and Mark Risner, both of Tiffin, Melodi (Bill) Hooper of Tymochtee, Chris (Jeff) Johnson of Sycamore and Nathan Risner, Mari Risner and Jeff Grove, all of Tymochtee; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters, Roxie Bowling of Findlay, Monroe Risner of Upper Sandusky, Paul Risner of Berwick, Gerald Risner of Tiffin, Ernest Hoover Jr. of Upper Sandusky and Virginia Caudill of Carey.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tabitha Risner; a son, Skeet Grove; a sister, Donna Jean Thaxton; and two brothers, Milo Risner and Kenneth Risner.
He was the former owner of Mohawk Fence and R&C Maintenance, both of Tymochtee. He also was a retired newspaper carrier for The Advertiser Tribune, Tiffin, delivering for 38 years. He also belonged to Upper Room Tabernacle, Tiffin.
For hobbies he loved to sing, read his Bible daily, spend time with his family and do all kinds of woodworking. He also served his country in the Korean War.
Funeral services for Derry will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Pastor Ava Nye officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, McCutchenville, where the Sycamore American Legion will conduct a military graveside service.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
