February 21, 2013
By Dan McElhatten - Correspondent , The Advertiser-Tribune

FOSTORIA?- Fostoria City Council continued its support of economic development by approving an ordinance appropriating $30,000 from a 1 percent temporary income tax to be sent to the Community Development Fund. This ordinance is to support Fostoria Economic Development Corp. for this year. The goal of FEDC is to facilitate economic development in the Fostoria area to seek a competitive edge. Interest generated from loans being paid back to the city and certain city accounts also go to FEDC through this ordinance.

The Fostoria Footlighters Theater, which has fallen into disrepair over a number of years, is scheduled to be razed beginning March 4, according to Mayor Eric Keckler. The former church and playhouse, located at South Poplar and East South streets, saw various musical acts and theater productions in better times. The Seneca County Health Department identified the building as a public nuisance. The property was acquired from owner Gary Brown Jr. prior to the bidding Jan. 31 with estimated costs of tearing down and disposal costs at approximately $85,000.

In other action, council:

Council is to meet at 7:30 p.m. March 5 at city hall.
