Lawmakers oppose Olympics committee dropping wrestling

February 15, 2013
The Advertiser-Tribune

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Urbana, and congressmen Tim Walz, Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Minnesota, and Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa, filed a resolution in the House of Representatives Thursday expressing opposition to the International Olympic Committee's decision to drop wrestling as a core sport.

"Wrestling defines the Olympic spirit like no other sport," Jordan said. "The IOC got this one dead wrong, and their decision threatens to extinguish the dreams of countless American athletes. I look forward to working with my friends in the wrestling community toward reversing this ruling."

Jordan, who represents Ohio District 4 which includes Seneca County, was a four-time state wrestling champion and had a record of 150-1 while wrestling for Graham High School.
