Edith M. Mitten

Edith M. Mitten, 92, of Carey, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born July 22, 1920, in Seneca County. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Carrie (McGee) Hayman. Edith married Raymond G. Mitten Dec. 21, 1941, in Albany, Ga., and he preceded her in death Aug. 26, 2003.

She is survived by six children, Ida Cook of Nevada, Helen (Jim Link) of Dublin, Diana (Dan) Wheeler of Carey, Steve Mitten of Nevada, M. Jane (Ron) Weinandy of Alvada and Jerry Mitten of Upper Sandusky; 12 grandchildren, Jim and Brian Cook, Dusti (Jay) Reed, Dan (Loretta) Wheeler, Jason Mitten, Jenny (Chris) Gerschutz, Josh Weinandy, Jill (Ryan) Wilson, Sara Weinandy, Rachael (Paul) Lust and Mark and Miles Mitten; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Mary Caudill of Carey, Louise Huffman of Elyria and Lois (Ray) Pahl of New Riegel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Paul, George and Dale Hayman; two sisters, Gladys Spitler and Joanne Schreiner; and one great-granddaughter.

Edith was a 1940 graduate of Sycamore High School and a homemaker. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader of the Angeline School and assisting her husband at Carey Conservation Club. She was a member of Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Church, Carey, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society.

Friends will be received 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A scripture service will be at 7:45 p.m..

Her Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Carey, with the Rev. John Stowe, OFM Conv., officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sycamore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County or Wyandot County Home Health in care of Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316-1169.
