Chieftains fall to Margaretta 'Under the Lights'
BASCOM, OH - Hopewell-Loudon was defeated by Margaretta, 48-27, but that didn't stop the Chieftains from enjoying the sound of music.
"With the school closing next year, we wanted the boys to have a memorable experience wrestling in the gymnasium one last time," said Hopewell-Loudon coach Travis Traxler.
The Chieftains hosted the event called 'Under the Lights', which showcased the teams wrestling beneath a spotlight to popular music played throughout the gym. Glow sticks and t-shirts were available to audience members.
"We also had the chance to get the Biddy Wrestlers involved with the varsity. They joined them on stage during the event and took pictures with the team, holding a sign that read 'Future Wrestling Champs of Hopewell-Loudon,'" said Traxler.
Damion Vitt at 126 pounds, Alex Brock at 132, Zach Clouse at 152 and heavyweight Coltan Hossler each won their match by pin. Tristan Myers, who wrestled up two weight classes at 160 pounds, won by decision.
Traxler said despite the loss, his team showed improvement compared to their match against the Polar Bears last year.
"Margaretta beat us last year, 78-6, so we are definitely celebrating the improvement," Traxler said.
