BASCOM - Tyler Imes and Hopewell-Loudon kept Zach Garber pretty well contained in regulation, but Imes left with an injury after tying the game with a few seconds left in the fourth quarter and Vanlue owned the extra period Saturday in a 46-38 win.
The 6-10 Garber ended with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (9-2), but couldn't stop the 6-4 Imes from knotting the game 38 with eight seconds to go in the fourth period.
However, the 6-4 Imes was injured on the game-tying shot and couldn't play in overtime. Vanlue blanked H-L 8-0 in the extra period to get the win.
Austin Smith added 15 points for Vanlue. He and Garber both hit three 3-pointers to help the Wildcats go 8 for 26 behind the arc.
Imes finished with 18 points and seven boards.
Alec Gregg backed him with 11 points, Adam Black grabbed six rebounds, Weston Hill had five boards and three assists and Ryan Lommerse handed out three assists.
Mohawks get going in second half
MARION - St. Wendelin overpowered Marion Catholic in the second half Saturday to post a 57-33 win.
The Mohawks (4-7) trailed 14-12 at halftime, but led 30-24 after the third quarter before racing away 27-9 in the fourth.
Gabe Walters' 20 points and nine rebounds paced St. Wendelin.
Nick Schumaker and Brady Rutter both netted eight points, with Schumaker dishing five assists for the Mohawks.
Jackets escape from Panthers
McCOMB - New Riegel rallied past McComb in the fourth quarter Saturday to clip the Panthers 48-47 and improve to 12-1.
The Blue Jackets trailed 35-32 after third quarter before getting the win.
Brandyn Reinhart tallied 19 points and eight rebounds to key New Riegel. Jake Dryfuse had 12 points and eight boards, and Korey Williams tossed in 11 points.
The Panthers (6-6) got 15 points and six assists, from DeHon Buck and 12 points and six assists from Jerry Brown.
Polar Bears no match for H-L girls
DOLA - Hopewell-Loudon totally dominated the game Saturday in a 49-13 whipping of Hardin Northern.
The Chieftains (7-6) led 15-2 after the first eight minutes and didn't allow the Polar Bears to reach double digits until the fourth quarter.
Lauren Trumpler led everyone with 14 points, four steals and four assists for H-L.
Danielle Rohrbach added eight points and nine of H-L's 51 rebounds. Courtney Burns also dished four assists.
Shelby Schlatter scored five points to lead Hardin Northern, which shot an abysmal 5 for 52 (9.6 percent) from the field.
Mohawk's fast start takes down Bobcats
BETTSVILLE - Mohawk outscored Bettsville 28-4 in the first quarter, and cruised to a 69-29 win.
Darby Walton led Mohawk with 10 points, while Grant Ekleberry had nine.
Mohawk out-rebounded the Bobcats 40-29, and capitalized on 28 Bettsville turnovers.
Tommy Kipps and Logan Robertson had eight points for the Bobcats.
Rams defensive in win over Falcons
UPPER SANDUSKY - Upper Sandusky used a strong defensive effort to top North Central Conference foe Riverdale, 56-34.
Joe Reile had 15 points for the Rams, who held the Falcons to no more than eight points in each of the first three quarters.
Riverdale's Lee Holderman had 12 points.
BC uses first half surge to top Tigers
GALION - Buckeye Central controlled the first half at Galion, then held off the Tigers from there Saturday in a 58-48 win.
Austin Wurm (19) and Cade Kaple (16) combined for 35 points for the Bucks, who led 36-24 at the break.
Austin Prosser had 18 points for Galion.
