United Way campaign inches closer to goal

December 30, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

The Tiffin-Seneca United Way wishes to thank all of the volunteers and donors for their generous gift of time and financial support to help make the annual United Way campaign a success. The effort so far has been tremendous and has raised more than $401,000, or 80 percent of the 2012-13 goal of $500,000.

Every year since 1943, United Way (formerly Tiffin Community Fund, United Fund and Red Feather Association) has supported many agencies and program that provide a variety of health and human services to the residents of Tiffin and Seneca County. The mission of the United Way is to improve the lives of the residents of Seneca County and to encourage our community to care for one another.

The United Way campaign will end March 31, with the distribution of funds to take place in April. Six community volunteers are needed for the allocation process. The primary United Way agencies will submit their application for funding along with their financials, program outcomes and purpose for the use of the funds.

Each agency will meet with the allocation team to present their needs for the upcoming year. The allocation team then will make its determination on how to distribute the United Way funds equitably and to meet the greatest needs, focusing on income, education, health and safety net services.

Campaign chairwoman Kelly Hohman and vice chairman Eric Shook encourage our community members to support the campaign that will in turn help thousands of local community members. The community has been very generous and willing to support the United Way and its 22 agencies with its financial support, as well as its time and efforts to contact local businesses and individuals for contributions. Hohman and Shook are encouraging people donate, especially those who may never have donated before, or individuals who may have in the past supported the United Way campaign, but since changing jobs or retiring have lost their connection with United Way. Individuals wishing to donate may do so by sending their donation to: Tiffin-Seneca United Way, P.O. Box 368, Tiffin, OH 44883, with the memo for the 2012-2013 campaign.

United Way still is seeking packets that were distributed earlier and ask any local businesses that still have their United Way packets to contact the United Way office at (419) 448-0355, to have their packet picked up.
