The business of change

December 28, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

I first want to apologize for things I may say or do incorrectly in my position as your Seneca County commissioner. I have been elected by the citizens of Seneca County to attempt to put to use some of the business practices I have learned through my 28-plus years of running Laminate Technologies. I can assure everyone I will not always do everything right, and through the process of putting a business sense in government I will certainly step on some toes and upset some people.

Again, for this I am sorry, but I can assure everyone I have no personal agenda, and my focus will be first to increase our revenue through economic development, much the same as we have done in business through increased sales, and my second responsibility is to manage the bottom line, and this may mean some jobs eliminated or redirected.

As in business, if we find departments or individuals who are not performing at levels we require, we need to make the difficult decisions. Please understand I have no personal agendas other than to serve the people of Seneca County to the best of my ability.

Again, I write this letter in advance of any of my shortcomings; again, mistakes will be made. I hope and pray that they are minor, but as in business, if we do nothing, no mistakes will be made, and I expect to help the various county departments manage better and be more businesslike in decision making.

As issues will arise regarding ditches, roads and bridges, or for that fact any interaction with county residents, I will not please everyone, but again, as in business, I will openly listen to all sides and my decisions, while only one of three, we be strictly on the merits of the project and with no personal interest other than to serve the majority of the residents of Seneca County.

I want to thank everyone in advance for reading this and please keep a copy of this and reread it through the four years I am privileged to serve as your county commissioner.

Fred Zoeller,

Tiffin
