Ralph Robert ‘Bob’ Vesey

Ralph Robert "Bob" Vesey, 93, of Green Springs, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Elmwood at The Springs.

He was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Green Springs, the son of Ralph E. and Irene (Miller) Vesey.

Bob married Lessie Weaver Aug. 16, 1942, in Tiffin, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 1983.

Bob is survived by three nephews and a niece out of state; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Weaver, Tiffin, and Norma Vesey, Boulder, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ruth (Miller) Vesey; wife; daughter, Diane Sue Vesey; and son, Scott Thomas Vesey.

He was a 1938 graduate of Green Springs High School. Bob attended Ohio University and was enrolled in ROTC from 1938 to 1941. In 1942 he attended the U.S. Maritime Service Radio School at Gallups Island, Mass., and in 1944 he attended the U.S. Maritime Service Purser-Pharmacist School at Sheepshead Bay, N.Y.

Bob served in the Merchant Marine Service from 1942 to 1945 with the final 1 1/2 years as a purser and pharmacist on board ships. He circumnavigated the globe twice during this period. After the Merchant Marines, Bob operated his own retail appliance business from 1946 to 1956 in Green Springs. He then worked at Whirlpool Corp. from 1956 to 1969 as a lab technician. From 1969 to 1984, he worked for GTE and Verizon as a troubleshooting tech.

Bob was a member of the Lions Club, village council, Memorial Library trustee, United Methodist Church trustee, High School Athletic and Music Boosters, and a Cub Scout leader, all in Green Springs.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Green Springs United Methodist Church, 117 N. Broadway St., Green Springs, OH. Services will begin at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Christine Tobergte officiating.

Burial will take place at Green Springs Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Green Springs United Methodist Church.
