Boys Basketball Roundup: Carey hangs on against Bucks, stays unbeaten

NEW WASHINGTON - Three Carey players combined for 45 points Saturday as the Blue Devils escaped from Buckeye Central with a 54-52 win.

Justin Meek led the attack with 19 points, Jared Wentling scored 16 and Bryan Powers netted 10.

Wentling also grabbed five rebounds for the Blue Devils (7-0), who were outscored 19-11 in the final period.

Austin Wurm fueled the Bucks (2-5) with 18 points and 10 boards.

Dustin Snyder, Stone Wurm and Alan Niese each scored nine points.

Davidson fuels unbeaten Stockaders

OLD FORT - Cole Davidson poured in 30 points and Old Fort shot just under 50 percent from the field Saturday in a 70-57 win over Maumee Valley Country Day.

Davidson nailed seven 3-pointers en route to his game-high point total for the unbeaten Stockaders (7-0), who finished 19 of 39 from the field.

He did his most damage in the fourth quarter, hitting four 3-pointers and scoring 19 points in the period.

Old Fort also benefited at the line, going 25 of 37 on foul shots while the Hawks ended 5 of 8 there.

"This was a tough, physical game," Old Fort coach Eric Hoover said. "We did a great job being strong in the second half and drawing a lot of contact to get to the line.

"They lost Cole in the fourth quarter and he made them pay," he said.

Dalton Perry backed Davidson with 21 points and nine rebounds, and A.J. Phillimore scored 10 points. Hunter Perry tallied 11 rebounds and six assists against the Hawks (3-3).

Reinhart, Dryfuse lead NR charge

NEW RIEGEL - Brandyn Reinhart's 33 points led everyone and Jake Dryfuse registered a double-double Saturday in New Riegel's 79-57 thumping of Riverdale.

Dryfuse backed Reinhart with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Korey Williams scored nine points for the Blue Jackets (7-1) and Nick Wank had eight points and nine assists.

Lee Holderman tossed in 16 points for the Falcons (1-6). Chad Pever and Jimmy Fox each netted 12 points for Riverdale and Dillon Farrow hauled in 13 boards.

Whippets too much for Upper Sandusky

UPPER SANDUSKY - Shelby vaulted past Upper Sandusky 14-2 in the second quarter to take control and Tristen Kehres ended with a double-double Saturday in the Whippets' 51-34 win.

The Whippets (6-2) used their burst in the second to turn a 10-9 deficit into a 23-12 lead at intermission. A 22-16 surge in the fourth put the game away.

Kehres provided 10 points and 16 rebounds for Shelby, and Grant Fenner scored 14 points.

Joe Reile's 11 points paced the Rams (1-4). Trent Howard scored eight points and Cody Collins grabbed six boards.

SW rides quick start

DANBURY - St. Wendelin took control in the first half and wound up forcing 32 turnovers Saturday in a 57-32 whipping of Danbury.

The Mohawks (3-4) led 15-6 at the first stop and 34-10 by halftime.

Nick Schumaker scored 14 points for St. Wendelin, Brady Rutter added 10 points and three steals and Zach Miller tallied eight rebounds and five steals.

Brown-led Vikings vault Hopewell-Loudon

BASCOM - Leipsic bottled up Hopewell-Loudon's offense in the first and got a big double-double from Austin Brown in Saturday's 68-38 runaway.

The Vikings (4-1) led 37-18 at the break, and wound up forcing 28 turnovers.

Brown scored 13 points and hauled in a game-high 20 rebounds.

Zach Kuhlman led all players with 20 points for Leipsic, Devin Mangas netted 14 and Josh Gerten tossed in 10.

Kuhlman also snared five steals.

Alec Gregg's 19 points topped the Chieftains (5-2). Ryan Lommerse and Tyler Imes each scored eight points and Adam Black had five points.
