Loss of lights a possible hazard

December 15, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

I am concerned about the removal of traffic lights throughout the city. The timing of removing these lights is a potential safety hazard for pedestrians and children.

As we all know, the only thing that will slow the speed of many drivers is having to stop for a light.

From what I had read, the school crossing guards will soon be eliminated at all crossings. Combining this with the wide use of cellphones and yes, even texting, which I see going on, we are setting ourselves up for potential problems.

I remember last winter, when salting the streets seemed to become a lower priority as well. I know all city governments are struggling with funds, but public safety would seem to take priority over everything else.

Eliminating a tax at the state level sounds good, but does not translate well to the local level.

It is encouraging to see local governments are starting to fight back because they need this money to operate.

There are ways to raise funds, state government just needs to look at other states nearby for ideas.

Respectfully submitted,

Robert Holzhauser,

Tiffin
