ATTICA - The Seneca East Board of Education met Monday evening and heard high school principal Don Vogt report on efforts to have laptop computers provided to students at Seneca East high school. Research is continuing on possible funding options.
Elementary and junior high school principal Brad Powers reviewed efforts to acquire and distribute smoke alarms to families in the school district. The district worked with the Attica-Venice-Reed fire district to institute the program, which includes an incentive program to have the alarms installed.
Superintendent Michael Wank related school safety plans and policies. He also said the district is working with two companies to have the plans and policies reviewed and updated as necessary while inspecting the building.
Athletic Booster Club president Thomas Nagel reviewed plans for having the Wall of Fame placed in the lobby of the gym. Nagel said he will work with the school and others to make sure the pictures are installed for the community to see.

A motion to approve the lease/purchase agreement with US Bank for copiers through Perry Corp.
A motion to approve the appointment of Drew Mennel to the Seneca East Public Library Board of Trustees for a seven-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
A motion to approve all updates to the Seneca East Board of Education policy manual as recommended by NEOLA.
A motion to approve hosting the Division III sectional girls' basketball tournament Feb. 19 and 23, 2013.
A motion to approve Angela Eitle as a substitute cleaner for the 2012-2013 school year.
A motion to offer a supplemental contract to Liz Crapo as varsity girls' track coach for the 2012-2013 school year.
A motion to approve the treasurer advertising the school farm for cash rent.
The board approved a resolution directing the school superintendent to institute a quarterly review of plans submitted by the YMCA to ensure all initiatives are being undertaken.
The annual organizational and regular monthly meetings of the school board are set for 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at the board office.
