Bertha Mae Offerle, 90, of New Carlisle and formerly of Bucyrus and Tiffin, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in Dayton.
She was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Michigan, to Gladys Viola Mae Keckler Howell and Harpster Howell. She married Adam Gottfried, in Ohio, and he preceded her in death. They had two sons and four daugthers. One son, George Allen, is deceased. She then married Robert Offerle, in Ohio, and he also preceded her in death.
She is survived by five children, Irene Ball, her caretaker, William (Dottie) Gottfried, Eleanor (Jack) Langford, Beth (Jim) Donaldson and Karen Namaky; an honorary son, Alvin Gottfried; 15 grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and honorary grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She referred to all of her grandchildren as her "little sugar foots."
Despite chronic ill health most of her life, she cared for many individuals and foster children in her home. She liked family gatherings, reading and crocheting. She made afghans for family and friends. She was very active in her church and had a great faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Her memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at First Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3798 Clifton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45220.
