In the Dec. 4 sports section of The Advertiser-Tribune, a headline stood out. It read: "Lakota routs Bettsville." As I read the article about the 97-6 lopsided running up of the score, an extreme disappointment in Lakota's coaching staff and a feeling of real anger came over me. It was clear to me the Lakota kids may have had a "100-point" game in their minds and made it their goal to achieve.
Sure, Lakota appeared to have played its entire bench, but I am afraid Lakota also put "sports ethics" and "sportsmanship" on the bench. One just does not run up the score like Lakota did and expect applause from the fans. Those kind of antics do nothing more than to send the wrong message to your athletes.
