James F. ‘Jim’ Zimmerman

James F. "Jim" Zimmerman, 85, of Tiffin, passed away Monday afternoon, Dec. 3, 2012, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was born Oct. 23, 1927, in Hammond, Ind., to Albert J. and Margaret (Fry) Zimmerman. He married Birdie Fulmer Aug. 16, 1952, at St. Peters Catholic Church, Mansfield,.

Survivors include his wife, Birdie; two sons, James (Sheila) Zimmerman of Winchester, Ind., and Terence (Anne) Zimmerman of Tiffin; five daughters, Mary Deidrick of Napoleon, Susan (Christopher) Ranieri of Tiffin, Ann (Jonathon) Scott of Benton, Jane (Timothy) Rose of Oroville, Calif., and Teresa Albainy of West Lake; one sister, Sister Margaret Ann Zimmerman, O.S.F. of Joliet, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, the Rev. Albert Zimmerman and the Rev. Thomas Zimmerman; an infant sister, Jane Zimmerman; son-in-law, Anthony Albainy; two granddaughters, Rebecca Ranieri and Kristina Deidrick; and a great-grandson, London Ritzler.

Jim graduated in 1945 from Catholic Central High School, Hammond, Ind., and moved to Tiffin in 1957 from the Mansfield area. He owned Western Auto from 1957-1965, worked at Decker's Furniture from 1965-1967 and then at Sears and Roebuck Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and also volunteered there; cleaning, ushering, helping with funeral lunches, working at the festival and helping at bingo for 13 years.

Jim also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and St. Vincent DePaul and was a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 608. Jim enjoyed fishing, gardening and sports; especially the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame.

His Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the Mass.

Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A wake service will begin at 3:45 p.m.
