Give thanks Wednesday

The Salvation Army is to serve its annual community Thanksgiving dinner 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday at 505 E. Market St.

Traditional foods are to be served by volunteers. The meal is free and open to all.

Support the troops

The fifth annual Support the Troops concert is set for Nov. 21 at Tiffin Eagles.

Free food by TPC Food Service is to be served at 6 p.m. and music by The Late Show and Rusty Vinyl is to start around 7 p.m. A 50/50 drawing also is planned.

Proceeds are to be added to the Seneca County Support the Troops Fund, which provides assistance for families of active troops. Admission is by donation to the fund.

Stockings drive under way

Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory again is sponsoring Christmas Stockings for Soldiers.

Stockings can be picked up 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays at 135 N. Washington St., to be decorated and filled. A list of suggested items is provided. Finished stockings must be returned to the funeral home by Nov. 30.

Turkey trot scheduled

Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning at 8 a.m. A casual 3- or 5-mile fun run/walk is to take place at at Hedges-Boyer Park in the shelter across from the YMCA.

The Salvation Army will be there to collect donations of cash and non-perishable food.

Community meal slated

Tiffin First Church of the Nazarene is to serve its fourth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner at 12:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

This free dinner is open to anyone. The dinner is to include turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, cole slaw, rolls, cranberry relish, and desserts.

The church is at 777 E. TR 201.

Seneca County Agency Transportation is to provide free transportation for riders who make arrangements by today. Call (419) 448-7344.

Toy donations needed

The Edward Jones branch office in Tiffin is supporting The Salvation Army's holiday toy drive for 2012.

Local residents and businesses may help those less fortunate in the community by bringing in items to the office at 2459 W. Market St., in Wolf Creek Shopping Plaza, during regular business hours.

The collection is to continue through Dec. 14.

Tree lighting Sunday

BETTSVILLE - The fourth annual Christmas Tree Lighting is to begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Old Fort Bank, Bettsville.

The celebration includes free hot chocolate and cookies, Christmas carols and readings. Santa arrives at 6 p.m. for lighting of the tree.

Allen Eiry planning cruise

The Allen Eiry Senior Center is taking reservations for a New England and Canada cruise aboard the Queen Mary 2. The trip is planned June 30-July 6.

A motorcoach will transport travelers to the Pocono Mountains on Day 1. The following day, the bus will deliver travelers to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in New York for departure. The ship sails to Halifax and returns to Boston for the Fourth of July fireworks in Boston Harbor.

Passports are required. A deposit of $500 is due Jan. 8, with final payment due March 8.

Cooking show to return

FOSTORIA - The annual Taste of Home Cooking School is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at Fostoria High School Performing Arts Center, 1001 Park Ave., Fostoria. Doors open at 5 p.m.

Culinary specialist Dana Elliott of Indianapolis is to prepare 10 recipes. Each dish is to be raffled off to audience members.

The grand prize to be given away is a GE range valued at up to $949 from Bindel's Appliance in Findlay. A $200 gift card from Great Scot also is to be awarded and bags of groceries. All guests are to receive goodie bags.

Admission is $10.
