A 9-year-old boy was seriously injured after he darted into a roadway and was struck by a pick-up truck Thursday evening in Fostoria.
According to a release from the State Highway Patrol, Mavin Hamilton, of Fostoria, was struck in the middle of Columbus Avenue near Lytle Street by a 2006 Dodge Dakota driven by George Tucker, 74, also of Fostoria, after he ran out from behind a building and into the street around 5:30 p.m.
According to the release, Tucker had been driving southeast bound on Columbus Avenue and Hamilton had run southwest bound across Columbus Avenue.
Hamilton was transported by Fostoria EMS to Fostoria Community Hospital and was later taken by medical helicopter to University of Toledo Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
He remained in serious condition Thursday night, a State Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Tucker was not injured during the crash and his vehicle was towed from the scene, according to the release.
Fostoria Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the accident and assisted the Fremont Post of the State Highway Patrol with the investigation. State Highway Patrol reconstruction also assisted at the scene.
According to the release, alcohol is believed to be involved in the crash and charges are pending.
