SYCAMORE - Mohawk Board of Education met Monday evening, receiving a report back from the "Wrestling Night Out" fundraiser, showing enough money was raised to purchase a new mat for the wrestling team. Board member Todd Price thanked those involved with making the fundraiser a success, which involved more than 50 alumni and more than 240 guests.
Resolutions approved included:
Financial reports for October.
Increase the General Fund appropriations $25,000 for technology purposes.
Increase Athletic Fund appropriations $10,205 for wrestling mat paid from the "Wrestling Night Out" fundraiser.
The board also approved one-year contracts for non-certified substitutes for the 2012-2013 school year, including David Jones, bus driver; Melody Lambert, playground supervisor; Anna Wildman, playground supervisor/cafeteria and custodian; and Larry Platt, teachers aide. One-year substitute contracts also were issued for the 2012-2013 school year to Bonnie Eyestone, Rebecca Guinther and Amy Wilson.
The Athletic Department had a few changes, including approval for Tonya Trusty to volunteer with the 2012-2013 junior high girls basketball teams, and the transfers of Brad Weaver from eighth grade girls basketball to freshmen girls basketball coach and David Trusty from freshmen girls basketball coach to assistant girls basketball coach.
Supplemental contracts for the 2012-2013 school year are to be offered, pending completion of requirements, to Chris Clinger, eighth grade boys basketball coach; Dale Pursell, seventh grade boys basketball coach; Emily Runion, eighth grade girls basketball coach; David Arter, Jim Cook, Don Shellhouse and Wendy Shellhouse, musical assistants; and Katie Niederkohr, musical director.
Superintendent Ken Ratliff's report discussed the failed levy for Mohawk Schools and will be looking to the community for feedback.
Three students were recognized whose leadership was key in being sent to Buckeye Boys State at Bowling Green State University and Buckeye Girls State at Mount Union College. Seniors Tyler Krupp, Patricia Concepcion and Victoria Smith were chosen to represent Mohawk Local School. The New Riegel VFW Post sponsored Krupp's visit, and Concepcion and Smith's visits were sponsored by the Sycamore post. Principal Carl Long also recognized Kendra Bloomfield and Samantha Lee, Rotary students of the month at Sentinel Career Center.
In the elementary report, the first round of reports from reading testing were sent home with students. Parents are urged to bring any questions to the conferences today and Tuesday. A $4,000 grant also was accepted for some after-school activities to continue, such as dance and sports.
In other news, the music boosters annual craft show is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Mohawk with $2
admission.
