Red Cross wants cards for military

November 14, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

Red Cross is inviting the public to send messages of thanks, support and holiday cheer to members of the Armed Forces, veterans and their families by mailing them by Dec. 7 to Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456.

Pitney Bowes receives the cards, screens them for hazardous materials and ships them at no charge, as well as contributing thousands of volunteer hours at sites nationwide.

Red Cross volunteers across the country and on military installations overseas then sort and deliver the cards throughout the holiday season.

Red Cross is planning to host card-making parties 5 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Tiffin Mall office, as well as at Hancock County Red Cross, 125 Fair St., Findlay, and at 6 p.m. at Upper Sandusky Fire Department, Upper Sandusky.

Supplies are to be provided.

Families, schools, organizations and anyone interested in participating are invited to attend. All cards made are to be forwarded without need for further postage.

To ensure cards are delivered in time for the holidays, they must be postmarked no later than Dec. 7. Individuals are asked to refrain from sending "care packages," monetary donations or using glitter or any other kinds of inserts with the cards.

More information and card requirements are posted at www.redcross.org/holidaymail.
