Yes, it's true. Election Day is over. No more political ads on TV, no more phone calls to annoy us. It's all over - finished.
Some of us are happy about the results while some are unhappy. Personally, I'm an old-fashioned conservative so obviously, I wish it would have gone the other way. But, as I said, and as we all know, it's over - it's history. So now it's time to move on.
I have some good friends who do not share all of my political views - I have a good family, some of whom do not share my views. It does not change my love and respect for any of them. Again, it's time to move on. We all live on the same planet - we all have different ways of seeing things. In spite of our different views on certain matters, we have to get along with one another.
It's not necessary to agree with each other, but it's necessary to do it in a more agreeable manner. Today, while viewing the "experts" on TV, the talk was about what should have been done, what should have not been done and what should now be done. As far as what the people in Washington should do, here is my suggestion. All Republicans should take off their Republican hat, all Democrats take off their Democrat hat, all liberals remove the liberal hat and all conservatives remove their concretive hat and then sit down and talk.
Yes, I know, they talk all the time - sometimes too much. But they should approach it a little different than they currently do. What they should do that is different is to forget about what is good for the party, what is good for them and what is good for their next election. Then talk about what's good for the country, what's good for our society, what's good for the world.
Next is the most important and usually the most over looked and it's this: While the other person is talking, they should listen - really listen. But being that it's the most important, it also seems to be the most difficult. We all know what happens when the other person is sharing his/her views. Instead of really listening, the other person is thinking about what his rebuttable will be. That's it - not really listening, but deep in thought about the rebuttal.
It happens all the time. It happens in politics, it happens in families, in business. Yes, it happens too often. In my opinion, that is what should be done next. If the people in Washington, our "public servants," could do that, I believe it would be a big improvement as far as fixing our problems is concerned.
