Despite many local elections going in favor of Republican candidates, the Seneca County Democratic Executive Committee met Thursday night to celebrate the victories at the top of the ticket and to commend the work of the Seneca County Board of Elections Tuesday.
Chairman Tom Smathers said he received phone calls from people in England and France congratulating and celebrating President Barack Obama's re-election.
He also said even though they did not win their races, Ohio House of Representative candidate Bill Young and Ohio Senate candidate Tanyce Addison thanked the committee for support during their campaigns.
Mary Puffenberger, chairwoman of the board of elections, said Election Day went "very smoothly," and they had the election results printed at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday, which she said was "remarkable for a presidential (election)."
Committee member Dean Henry said the board of elections did a great job on Election Day.
"I'm extremely proud of the fact that this is the party that protects the franchise (of voting)," Henry said. "And I saw that first hand, right here in Seneca County, Ohio."
