Help hurricane victims
The Hampton Inn, S. SR 231, is collecting items to help New York residents recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
General Manager Gina Russo, a native of that city, is accepting clothing, blankets, garbage bags, baby items, batteries, flashlights, non-perishable foods and paper products.

Dialysis center on display
Seneca Dialysis Center is to have an open house Thursday at its new location, 10 St. Lawrence Drive, on the Mercy Tiffin Hospital campus.
The ribbon cutting is set for 4:30 p.m. and the center is to be open to the public until 8 p.m.
Fostoria to host flu clinic
FOSTORIA A community flu vaccination clinic for adults 18 years and older is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital.
The cost is $25. The vaccine is covered by Medicare Part B only.
No registration is needed.
Jewelry sale scheduled
FOSTORIA - Pro-Medica Fostoria Community Hospital Auxiliary is to host a jewelry sale 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday in the gift shop lobby.
Shoppers can find costume jewelry, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, watches and more, all priced $10-$50.
Cash, checks, credit cards and ProMedica employee payroll deductions are to be accepted.

CLYDE - The McPherson House in Clyde is to be open 1-4 p.m. Nov. 14 to commemorate the 1828 birth of James Birdseye McPherson.

Fish to be served
Commission on Aging's next fish fry is 5-8 p.m. Friday at Somerset Reception Center, 382 S. Huron St.
The meal includes all the walleye you can eat, hot side dishes, salad bar, dessert and beverages.
Tickets are $7.50 in advance and $8 at the door. Children can eat for $4.

Run for the peace of it
Project Peace is sponsoring a 5K race, Running for Peace, at 10 a.m. Saturday on the St. Francis campus, Tiffin.
Each participant is asked to raise $10-$20 to donate to the cause of peacemaking, but a donation is not required to participate.
The first 25 people contributing $20 are to receive a "Making a Difference for Peace" T-shirt.

Driver safety course slated
Local veterans can attend the AARP Driver Safety course free Saturday.
The class is set for 8 a.m.-noon at Tiffin Amvets, 1909 S. SR 100. Reservations are required at (419) 448-1901. Non-veterans also can attend at a cost of $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members.
If all seats are filled, an online version of the course also is available by contacting AARP.
Those who complete the course may qualify for car insurance discounts.
Overnight retreat offered
St. Francis Spirituality Center is to host "Centering with Pottery and Prayer" 7 p.m. Friday through 8 p.m. Saturday. No experience is needed.
The cost is $110 for commuters and $150 for overnight guests.
Sister Jane Omlor, OSF, is leading the retreat.
