Edward L. Thompson

Edward L. Thompson, 78 years of age, and a resident of Sandusky, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Stein Hospice, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.

Edward was born April 30, 1934, in Wayne Co., Ky., and was raised and lived in Somerset, Ky., until moving to Lorain County in 1961. Sandusky had been his home for the past 10 years.

Edward was employed at the Ford Motor Company, Avon, for 22 years, retiring in 1996 as an inspector. Edward loved to sing gospel and bluegrass music. His hobbies included restoring vintage automobiles and traveling with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Trulla Thompson (nee: Turner); two sons, Ronnie L. (Aixa) Thompson of Lorain and David D. (Kelly) Thompson of Vermilion; daughter, Caroline (Joseph) Raines of Elyria; five stepdaughters, Marquetta (Walt) Salisbury, Becky (Rob) Watson, Brenda (companion Jimmy Myers) Smith, Machelle Edwards and Dawn (Kevin) Fenwick, all of Castalia; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Joyce) Thompson of Wayne Co., Ky., Vernon (Marilyn) Thompson of Sullivan and James (Lynn) Thompson of Oberlin; and two sisters, Lucille Troxtell of Science Hill, Ky., and Lillie Bolin (Paul) of Somerset, Ky.

Edward was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanie Thompson (nee: Jones) Oct. 19, 2002; his parents, Ephraim and Linda (nee: Jones) Thompson; and three sisters, Hazel Hall, Iva Lea Thompson and Rosetta Thompson.

Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst.

His funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday Nov. 5 at North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 N. Lake St., South Amherst, OH 44001, with additional visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Walt Salisbury, his son-in-law, pastor of Church of God, Sandusky, will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
