A woman was transported by Life Flight to University of Toledo Medical Center after a head-on collision Thursday evening on West US 224.

Sara Kin, 70, of Pemberville, had been driving a 2011 Toyota Prius westbound on US 224 when she attempted to pass a commercial vehicle and collided head-on with an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet S10 driven by Dennis Bannister, 43, of Republic, just before 6 p.m., said Trooper Gary Odom of the State Highway Patrol.

Kin had to be extracted from her vehicle by mechanical means before being flown to the medical center.

First responders work at the scene of a two-vehicle accident Thursday evening on West US 224 between SR 100 and SR 231.

Odom said Bannister was transported to Mercy Tiffin Hospital where he was treated and later released.

Both drivers had been wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, and alcohol is not a suspected factor, Odom said. He said the accident remains under investigation and no citations have been issued yet.

Odom said Thursday night Kin's status at UTMC was unknown.
