The Seneca County Public Defender Commission said Tiffin and Fostoria municipal courts, the juvenile court and common pleas court all are on pace to be below budget.

Through the first three quarters of 2012 the combined expenses of the four courts make up 56.3 percent of the $429,000 budget for the year.

Public Defender Commission Chair Dennis Eberly said the goal is for the courts to spend 75 percent of the budget or less.

Seneca County Commissioner Ben Nutter said Tiffin Municipal Court Judge Mark Repp thinks that if the merger of the Tiffin and Fostoria municipal courts passes, it would save more money.

Common pleas court has spent 73.5 percent of its $124,000 budget for 2012. Fostoria Municipal Court has spent 50.5 percent of its budget and Tiffin Municipal Court has spent 54 percent.

The juvenile court has spent less than half of its allotted budget, about 47.6 percent of its $193,000 budget from January-September.

"Juvenile was our biggest concern, and it's the lowest of the four," Eberly said. "(Judge) Jay (Meyer) is doing a good job down there."
