Charles D. Swope, 100, of Fort Seneca, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Seneca House, Tiffin, where he resided.
He was born Jan. 4, 1912, to Harry E. Swope and Clara E. (Sellers) Swope. He married Eva B. Duffey of Tiffin, who preceded him in death in 2003. Also preceding him was a brother, Francis, and a sister, Juanita.
He is survived by a daughter, Ann Scullion of Maumee; two sons, David (Eileen) of Waretown, N.J., and John (Karen) of Tiffin; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Charles lived nearly his entire life in Fort Seneca, being born and raised there and returning to live there when he started working at Basic. He graduated from Old Fort High School in 1930 and Tiffin University in 1934 with a degree in accounting. He worked in Toledo for nine years, then 34 years at Basic Incorporated at Maple Grove (near Bettsville), retiring as controller of finance. He was a past president of Basic Management Club and a past president of Basic Quarter Century Club. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Tiffin, for 71 years. He was an avid golfer, a member of Nature Trails Golf Course for many years. He had three holes-in-one and was awarded several trophies over the years.
His funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at First Lutheran Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Kenneth Gillikin officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.
There will be visitation from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
