SYCAMORE - Police Chief Richard Blankenship reported to Sycamore Village Council at a Tuesday evening meeting that a grant application is in the works through the Ohio Department of Justice.
Entitled "Stay Safe," the theme of the grant application revolves around putting officers on staff, supplementing pay and compensation at $20,000. Blankenship assured council that if approved the grant would be reviewed to ensure stipulations are met. Council President Vicki Weininger asked to be included in the review.
Village Administrator Charles Clark said the cause of a minor power outage Monday was the result of a traffic accident. He said a local church has requested two utility poles be relocated from their parking lot. Solicitor James Gucker will prepare an easement for the project.
Second readings were made of ordinances:
640-12, prohibiting the drilling of wells in the village and right to inspect;
641-12, requiring backflow devices for commercial properties and right to inspect.
Clark said backflow devices are necessary to help prevent cross-contamination of the water distribution system, wells and aquifers.
Fire Chief Bryan Clouse reported four employees have passed probation, and a resolution was passed approving the hires of Jason Romanko, Andy Long, Derek Book and Joel Banger.
He also reported the resignation of Sheri Clouse as EMS squad captain. Clouse, who is a registered nurse, is to return to school to become a nurse practitioner, according to the chief, but is to remain on the squad for ambulance runs.

IV solution on recall has been accounted for and will be replace with new stock.
The department is to apply for Ohio Department of Public Safety grant to help pay for training, purchase of items for squad and refurbish squads.
Weininger reminded the public of trick-or-treat Thursday night, with costume judging and parade Saturday. Blankenship asked drivers to be courteous and vigilant during Halloween festivities.
Council went into executive session at 8:25 p.m. to discuss legal matters regarding an employee with no action to follow.
