Heidelberg University students plan to spook and scare for a good cause, beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The annual France Hall Haunted House is to be open for students and community members alike.
Constructed in the early 1920s, France Hall is Heidelberg's oldest active dormitory, its only all-female dormitory and one of the school's nine buildings on the National Registry of Historic Places. In its current state, though, France Hall is in need of new windows, doors, carpeting and paint.
Before members enter "France Frightmares," student organizations will be offering free face painting, doughnuts and other goodies for children.
Those who enter the Haunted House can expect to encounter dozens of demons, mummies and ghouls. Visitors will roam to the basement, and exit through a rarely-used back door. There, they are to be treated to apple cider and doughnuts.
Donations are to be collected for a fund to benefit the historic building.
"By moving the donation box to the end of the haunted house, we hope to make even more money than last year," said Rebecca Dickinson, event coordinator. "Last year, community members were expecting something far less frightening than what we gave them."
