Now that the presidential debates have concluded, it's time for a forum involving state and local candidates plus discussions of state and local issues. Candidates Night is set for 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Tiffin Middle School.
This year, candidates for State Senate District 26, Tanyce Addison and David Burke; candidates for state representative for the 88th district, Rex Damschroder and Bill Young; candidates for state representative for the 87th district, Jeff McClain and Jeffrey Lehart; and Seneca County commissioner candidates Ben Nutter, Paul Shoemaker, Holly Stacy and Fred Zoeller have been invited to attend.
The format calls for candidates to answer questions on a rotating basis, followed by a one-minute closing statement. Audience members are to have an opportunity to suggest questions to be asked.
Unopposed candidates on the local ballot also may give a one-minute introduction.
Also, a question-and-answer session regarding an issue to increase the Tiffin income tax is planned, along with brief presentations for the Seneca County Commission on Aging renewal levy, Tiffin City Schools' renewal levy, the Mental Health and Recovery Board's renewal levy and Mohawk Local School District's permanent improvement levy.
Afterward, a member of the League of Women Voters of the Tiffin Area is to present information about State Issue 1, which calls for a constitutional convention, and State Issue 2, which would change the redistricting procedure. Information on local issues regarding Sunday liquor sales also is to be available.
The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Seneca County Farm Bureau, Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce, Tiffin University, Heidelberg University, AAUW, WTTF-AM, Seneca County Radio and The Advertiser-Tribune.
