Remember in November

October 17, 2012
The Advertiser-Tribune

"Remember in November" was the slogan being shouted last year at rallies across the state and at the statehouse. Nearly every Republican state legislator voted to support SB5 that would have ended collective bargaining as we know it for thousands of public employees. These Republican legislators stood by Gov. John Kasich as he arrogantly threatened to run his opponents over with his magic bus numbered SB5 if they weren't on board or stood in his way. SB5 threatened to not only restrict workers' bargaining rights but place conditions upon their employment. Dave Burke and Rex Damschroeder supported SB5.

It is now our turn to stand up and send a message to those who voted for or gave support to SB5 by voting them out of office and electing candidates who believe in supporting our values.

Bill Young and Tanyce Addison will do just that for the people of Seneca and Sandusky counties. They are former teachers who are stepping out of the schoolhouse to work for us in the statehouse. Bill Young is running for the Ohio House of Representatives and Tanyce Addison is running for the state senate. They both promise to protect the rights of workers as well as fight for public education.

Now, ask yourself these few questions. Who stood up for the workers of Ohio such as nurses, firefighters, police officers, teachers and others? Then ask yourself who stood on the other side and opposed them, such as Rex Damschroeder and Dave Burke? Can you really trust these two when votes are taken on our counties' futures? I ask the voters of Seneca and Sandusky counties to "Remember in November" who will fight for you and be your voice in the Ohio state legislature. I am confident Bill Young and Tanyce Addison will.

Please remember and look for the names of Bill Young and Tanyce Addison on your ballot when you vote. Let your voice be heard in Columbus.

Thank you.

Thomas Smathers,

Tiffin
