ATTICA - The Seneca East Board of Education approved a motion at its Monday night meeting to purchase 15-20 guitars for the music program with help from the music boosters. Boosters are to pay half of the total $2,300, with the board paying the balance.
Elementary music teacher Lynn Hunnaman proposed an internet-based instructional program to have more elementary students involved in the classroom. She anticipates having two students per guitar.
The board also approved $3,500 for the purchase of two baritones.
Elementary principal Brad Powers gave a presentation explaining possible Ohio Department of Education assessments to stretch and make test diagnostics more difficult and assess how far a student can grow in the education experience. The goal is to make students college and life ready.
Powers also recognized students Chloe MacBeth and Graham Gibbs of grades K-2 and Lacey Wood and Malayna Gahns of grades 3-6 for their outstanding performance and service to the school.

Update to the board policy, confirming closed lunch.
Hosting Division III District volleyball during 2012-13 school year.
Supplemental positions for next school year, including Becky Petrie, 7th grade girls basketball, and Craig Turek, 8th grade boys basketball coach, with Anthony Langhurst, volunteer.
One-year supplemental contract to Matt Depinet as wrestling coach for next year.
Wrestling volunteers Kyle McConnell and Greg Bordner.
Resignation of Jim Hoover as girls track coach.
Joyce Pipher and Sue Jordan as cafeteria substitutes.
Financial report of Sept. 30.
A motion to approve the Seneca East five-year forecast was tabled for next meeting.
Other discussions included:
Placing advertising behind athletic score board.
Removing curfew for elementary club programs and extending hours.
Two-hour delay instituted for Oct. 30 for teacher inservice.
Senior class trip of Caribbean cruise tentatively approved after parent/student ballots counted, awaiting price estimates.
The board gave special recognition to the Attica-Venice-Reed volunteer fire department for providing fire safety and prevention presentations last week. The board also recognized Casey Enders of the class of 2012 for planting new trees on school property.
