Harold J. Gosche

Harold J. Gosche, 86, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 14, 2012, at his home.

He was born July 23, 1926, in Tiffin, to Louis P. and Laura G. (Gillig) Gosche. He married Charlene "Char" W. Ramirez Nov. 12, 2008.

Survivors include his wife; son, Don (Becky) Gosche of Tiffin; daughter, Sharon (Tom Wurm) Gosche of Tiffin; brother, Richard (Gretchen) Gosche of Georgetown; two sisters, Joanne (Bernard) Karcher of Anaheim, Calif., and Alma (Earl) Schmitz of Carey; seven grandchildren, Shanon (Nate) Wickersham, Christopher (Jodie Ryan) Murphy, Bryan Gase, Sarah (John Martens) Gosche, Liza (Andy) Vondenberg, Emily (Will) Gruber and Lori Ritzler; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Macy, Liam, Clara, Elyse, Drew and Luke; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Gabby.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gerald Gosche; and a sister, Mary Jane Black.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, and a graduate of Melmore High School. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 9, 1945, to April 21, 1947 and later in the U.S. Air Force in a bomb squadron from Dec. 30, 1950 to Dec. 1, 1954, and continued in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Harold started his career as a partner with Emerson Roberts Auto Body on Benner Street and later became the manager at Tiffin Ford Body Shop. For more than 15 years, he owned and operated Harold's Body Shop and Harold's Alpine Tavern. Harold was a private pilot for years and a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). He attended the Oshkosh Air Show for many years. He was a member of Tiffin Moose Lodge No. 846, Tiffin Elks Lodge No. 94, VFW Post No. 2858 and American Legion Post No. 354, New Riegel. He enjoyed boating, flying and traveling around the United States.

His Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Tiffin, with military honors conducted by the New Riegel American Legion. The rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.

Friends may visit with the family 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, OH 44883, (419) 447-2424. A wake service will begin at 7:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Community Hospice Care, The Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
