ATTICA - During the village council meeting Thursday night, Jeff Painter reported 20 youngsters received a pumpkin for carving at the last farmers' market of the season. Painter previously had resigned from the coordinator position for the markets but with encouragement and help from other community members discussions have taken place to see what improvements can be made next year to be more successful.
Moving the market to town center has been considered, to capture more traffic.
Councilman Nate Frisch thanked Painter for the effort he has made in drawing the community together.
Painter noted Roe's Tree service would be in Attica in early November to trim trees.
Fiscal officer Pat Krebs stated a total of $687,255.95 is in all funds. She, along with department heads, are formulating the appropriations for 2013 and requested a meeting with the finance committee for discussion.
Krebs' evaluation was set for 7 p.m. Oct. 25.
The police department has received no bids for the 2001 Chevrolet cruiser and Danners' Towing and Recycling is to be contacted. Chief Keith Turner said all the accessories have been installed on the 2013 Ford Interceptor SUV cruiser.
Village Administrator Greg Martin reported repairs have been completed on a sewer pump at Seneca East School and another is being rebuilt at a cost of $900. He also informed council an advertisement has been placed for an engineer for the new wastewater treatment plant and lagoon system. The personnel committee is to review resumes at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25.
Looking at funding for the project, Martin is completing applications from the water protection loan fund and a principal forgiveness loan that must be submitted to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency by Nov. 8.
Martin also is be joined by engineer Marvin Gnagy to start a pilot study testing at an in-house lab for trihalomethanes in the water.
He reported that once the new recycling program began, receptacles filled within three days. OSS is emptying the bins Sundays and Thursdays.

Discussed police coverage of the east side of the village with US224 closed at the railroad.
Approved Krebs serving as the designee at the certified public records training for elected officials Wednesday.
The council is to meet next at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25.
