Again I am dismayed by another sign-off of a letter to the editor (Oct 2). This time, the author goes through her opinions (which I am proud to say she is able to share in this country) but then (in my opinion) proudly states "Yes, vote for the American."
The only conclusion one can gain from her signing off in such a manner is that if you don't agree with her, you are "un-American."
The First Amendment reads "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Please tell me where in there it says we all have to agree, we don't have a right to worship as we please, we don't have a right to voice our opinions nor try to get government to address our wants?
It is this kind of closed-minded thinking that is ruining our country and taking away our freedoms. In fact, this whole point of view is what one expects to find in Iran or North Korea.
I will agree; please research, question and then vote. Some good websites to look at would be League of Women Voters (lwv.org) or C-Span (c-span.org). Also remember that the local and state elections are important also so please research those as well.
