FFA to use park for project

SYCAMORE - In a short session Tuesday evening, Sycamore Village Council responded to a request by Mohawk Principal Carl Long to use Memorial Park for a Future Farmers of America project.

Long requested the park be open to Mohawk and other FFA chapters to stay the night Nov. 2 in cardboard tents to raise awareness about homelessness. Mayor Matt Boucher, also an FFA member, plans to spend the night with the groups which may include more than 100 people.

Legislation approved included:

An ordinance requiring backflow preventers to protect the village's water source and distribution system.

An ordinance authorizing the drilling of a well for the new Sycamore water treatment plant.

A resolution authorizing Clerk/Treasurer Chris Moler as the authorized agent for meeting with FEMA representatives regarding storm damage reimbursements.

A resolution accepting amounts and rates set by the tax commission related to levies and certifying same to the county auditor, first reading.

Upcoming events:

Halloween activities include trick-or-treat Oct. 25 with parade and costume judging Oct. 27.

Mohawk Lioness Club annual doughnut sale 7:30 a.m. Oct. 27 at Sycamore Fire Dept. until all sold.

Mohawk Community Library book sale 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

Mohawk Community Library annual potluck 2 p.m. Saturday.

Council is to meet at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at village hall.
