Michael D. Wheatley, 63, of Republic, passed away at 12:24 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Diley Ridge Medical Center, Canal Winchester.
Michael was born Sept. 10, 1949, to Jerald and Beverly (Houk) Wheatley, who survive in Tiffin. He married Rose (Gnepper) June 23, 1973, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, and she survives in Republic.
Other survivors include his daughter, Michelle (John) Helba of Pittsburgh, Pa.; son, Ross (Juliann Reineke) Wheatley of Greenville, S.C.; granddaughter, Avonlea Helba; sister, Carol (James) Coffman of Tiffin; and his dogs, Roscoe and Cookie.
Michael worked as an MIS administrator. He was a 1967 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and received an associate's degree in business from Tiffin University and later went on to receive a bachelor's degree in business from Tiffin University. He was a member of APICS, Friends of the Seneca County Parks and volunteered as a Scout leader in Republic. Michael enjoyed photography and was active in establishing blue bird trails in the local area. Michael was an avid bird and wildlife volunteer at the state and federal level.
His memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. A reception will follow the service in the school rec. room. A rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to the service.
There will be no visitation or burial at this time. Engle-Shook Funeral Home and Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
